Business Description

We urge all members to review their listing and send us a profile or description that tells visitors what products you sell or services you provide. Adding this information to your listing page will add a lot of value to your listing, make your listing easier to find for visitor searches and give you better backlinks to your websites. Welcome to the Cooloolabusiness.com Newsletter for October 2010.

8 Weeks till Christmas. This year seems like it has gone by in a flash.  They say that time flies when you are busy and we have been so busy with our network and site re-development and syndication programs that it seems that this year has gone by in a flash.  We still have a fair bit of work to do to complete these programs but we are already seeing benefits through increased traffic and rankings.

Our objective is to complete the program with a focus on more important search terms that incorporate buyer keywords to attract potential customers to our network and our client sites.  It is not much good having a number 1 search result if the visitors to that result aren’t prospective business customers.  As an example, someone searching for the term “Gympie” might be a student doing a school project but someone searching for “Gympie Website Design Service” is more likely to be looking for a website designer to build a website.  The search phrase “Gympie Website Design Service” is a buyer keyword phrase and this is an example of the type of keyword choices that website owners need to consider when reviewing the focus of their website.

As the Summer storm season is almost here, this alert service may be helpful for people to be able to take precautions if they know a storm is approaching e.g. moving your car under cover etc.  Free alerts are sent by email and SMS (although the SMS service is limited to free for 3 months and $1 a month after that).  More information can be found at:

Windows 7. Windows 7 is Microsofts “fastest ever” selling operating system is reportedly the easiest and best yet. We are informed that Microsoft has announced a Windows 7 Family Pack Discount with savings up to $350 with installation licences for 3 PCs. The Family pack is the Home Premium version and Microsoft says it is available for a limited time while stocks last at Dick Smith and Harvey Norman with an RRP of $249 (The single licence version is $199 RRP).  This represents a good deal if you have 3 PC’s and are looking to upgrade to the latest version of windows.  More information at:

Email Newsletter Systems. While we currently use desktop software (SendBlaster) for our newsletters, there are many online email autoresponder/newsletter systems with Aweber and Getresponse probably the best known of these services.  At around $20 a month for up to 500 subscribers, these services are not exactly cheap but they do provide very good deliverability. Mailchimp is another premium online service that provides free services for small businesses.  The Mailchimp service is fully featured but limited to 1000 subscibers and 6000 emails a month and this would be more than suitable for most small businesses.

SPAMfighter 7.1.99

SPAMfighter Standard is a free spam blocker for Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird that automatically filters spam (unsolicited bulk email) and phishing fraud.  The reviews indicate that this software does a reasonable job but we haven’t trialled it as we use Mailwasher commercial software.
