We use Mailwasher as our final line of defense for spam protection. The first two phases automatically remove most spam at the mailserver level and save us huge amounts of time in manually checking our email in Mailwasher. Although Mailwasher has built in automation and recognition systems, I like to screen and visually check very email that remains in the server inbox and this is where the power of Mailwasher is most advantageous. Mailwasher basically screens email on the server giving you a list comprising of all of the details that you need to decide it the email is valid or spam. Then with each email, you have a choice of bouncing the email back to the spammer, deleting the email or processing it and downloading it to your PC using your email client of choice e.g Outlook Express.
