Free System to Block Spam. Over the last few years, we have all experienced the frustration with the increase in Spam Email. Not only does it clog our inboxes but our daily activities now include sorting, filtering and deleting spam just wasting so much of our precious time.
To combat the problem, we have looked at various spam control methods that are available to try and identify a suitable system for our clients. Our primary goal was to find something that is fairly simple to use without being prohibitively expensive.
We have been using Mailwasher to successfully screen our email for a number of years but as this software is commercial, we have also been looking for a way of screening email for our clients without the cost of additional software.
Over the last six weeks, we have trialled a simple system in conjunction with Mailwasher and the screening statistics are very encouraging even though we really only have reports for the second phase of our free system. Implementation of the second phase for the period from 10th May 2007 to 20th June 2007 (a six week period) showed the following:
Total Email received by Phase 2 process - 4,520
Total Emails Filtered - 1738
Total Emails Delivered - 2782
Emails filtered but shouldn't have been - Approx. 20 (false positive)
Spam passing through filter system - Approx 20
As you can see, this is a lot of email and over one third is unwanted spam. These stats support our claim that implementing this simple system is very worthwhile. The system incorporates three phases with the first two phases being free while the thrid stage incorporates the use of Mailwasher - NOTE the above stats do not include using Mailwasher and purchase of Mailwasher to implement the third phase is not required to achive the same spam reduction levels.

We use Mailwasher Software our main defense system against spam. Mailwasher blocks spam before you download email to your PC. The software gives you the the option of deleting spam from your mailserver or bouncing it back to the sender indicating that your address is not valid to spammers.
