We have been advised that the Gympie Bow Hunters Association are to host the Central Queensland championships at the Imbil grounds on the weekend of September 15-16. The Association Executive has called for members to attend a working bee on September 9 to prepare the Barsby Road site for the upcoming event, which is expected to attract 100 shooters and their families.

Club President Russel Carlson said the club held a shoot at the weekend, with the following results:

Carl Green 604, Jenny Carlson 720, Michael Chippendall 170 (did not finish), Michael Rayner 188 (did not finish), Paul Sproxton 630, Ted Kettle 698, Glenn Carlson 380 (did not finish), Dylan Sproxton 614 (did not finish), Addison Sandy 748, Thomas Wade 692, Brad Schultz 286.

The Local Government Reform Commission report released today includes the amalgamation of Cooloola Shire, Kilkivan Shire and Division 3 of Tiaro Shire (Theebine/Gunalda area). Cooloola Shire was formed by the amalgamation of Gympie City and Widgee Shire Councils in 1993).

The new Local Government area is to be named Gympie Regional Council and is to be an undivided regional Council with 8 Councillors and a Mayor.

The report indicates that there is to be “Consolidation of Queensland Councils through amalgamation from 157 to 73 (including Brisbane City)”.

Other recommendations include:

• The new Councils may petition the State Government to alter the name of the new Local Governemnt area.
• Queensland Councillor numbers will be reduced from 1,250 to 526 (a reduction of 724 to emphasise the need for stonger strategic leadership).
• Provision of State Government assistance to manage transition and early implementation of amalgamation.
• Elections to be held in March 2008 with Mayors being elected “at large” i.e. an area wide ballot (same as previous).
• Planning Schemes will continue to apply unchanged (planning schemes will effectively operate as a local area plan for the former area until a new planning scheme is adopted).
• Rating Policies and other policies will apply until changed by the democratically elected representatives of the new local government area.
• Decisions on day-to-day functions including administrative centre location to be undertaken by the new Council

We have been testing some simple methods to block spam using freely available systems and are compiling a report for our visitors.  Our methods involve 2 separate phases to stop spam from reaching our computers. The two phases are completely free and will eliminate most of the spam sent to your domain email address, while an additional third phase we use incorporates a commercial program to screen the remaining email and delete or bounce spam.  Our recent trials show that free system used in phase 2 removed 1738 spam emails from a total of 4520 emails over a six week period.
